'Twas on the first day of the week

The women came in early morn

With spices for his burial.

O how their hearts with grief were torn.

But then they found an empty tomb,

"he stone rolled back the body gone.

In fear they gazed into the gloom,

Then hurried off to look for John.

But Mary Magdalene remained

To search for Jesus body there.

She saw the gardener standing by

And through her tears she asked him - Where?

He spoke her name and in a flash

She recognized him by that word

Then quickly to his friends she sped

And told them I have seen the Lord!

Twas on the first day of the week

That two friends to Emmaus went

They met a stranger on the way

And talked till day was now far spent.

Their hearts were warmed as on he spoke

At table as their guest      that night

Then he revealed himself at last

And vanished quickly from their sight

They hurried to Jerusalem

To tell his friends this joyful word.

They found them gathered in a room

And told them We have seen the Lord!

'Twas on the first day of the week

That ten disciples met at night,

But Thomas was not there to see

When Jesus stepped into the light

A week had passed when Thomas came

But doubted when with one accord

His brethern shared their wondrous news

And told him We have seen the Lord!

Unless I see the wounds, he said

I won't believe. Then Jesus came.

With soft rebuke he showed his wounds;

I see My Lord, my God again!

'Twas in Jerusalem one day

When first the church began to grow,

The gracious Stephen full of power

As preaching that all men might know

That Jesus Christ was God's true Son,

And many healing proofs he gave.

His words and works persuaded men

That Jesus has the power to save.

But iealous priests resented him

And brought him to a trial place

But though accused, his faith rang true,

Angelic glow upon his face.

They took out and stoned him then

But Stephen had the final word

In death the heavens shone on him

He cried in joy I see the Lord!

'Twas on the dark Damascus road.

the murderous Saul with foul intent

Was pressing on, till smitten by

A piercing light from heaven sent.

It knocked him from his mount, and then

It spoke to him in winsome voice

Why are you fighting me my friend?

From now on you're my man, my choice.

The men around him heard the sound

But didn't understand a word

And Saul, though stricken blind, affirmed

with strong faith, I have seen the Lord!

'Twas on the first day of the week

Upon the isle of Patmos bleak,

Where John was banished for his faith

He heard the voice of Jesus speak.

For on that day a vision came,

A warning from the Lord of Love

That John should write the churches seven.

A verdict sent from heaven above

Full many wondrous things that day

Were shown to him that he might tel1

The Christian church their destiny

And point the to heaven or hell.

And though at first he fell as dead

The voice said- Do not be afraid

And when the truth upon him dawned,

I saw the Son of Man, he said.
