I.
A certain man set out upon a trip To Jericho from old Jerusalem,
But on the way he met a band of thieves
Who stripped him of his raiment on the spot And wounded him and left him there to die.
By chance there came a certain Priest that way, But when he saw him lying by the road
He crossed and passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite trav'ling in that place Came out of curiosity and looked Upon the dying man but then he turned Away and passed by on the other side. And then a young Samaritan came by '";hen he was riding on that desert road; He saw the man and came to where he lay And felt a great compassion for his plight. He went to him and bound up all his wounds And poured in soothing oil and healing wine. Then, setting him on his own beast, he came Up to the local inn and cared for him;
And in the morning when he took his leave, He took two pence and gave them to the host And said to him 'Take care of this sick man, Rut if perchance you should need more than this To cover your expenses for his care,
I will repay you when I come again.
Thus Jesus taught : compassion is the way To be a Good Samaritan each day.
II.
A traveller was once making his way along a deserted road between two cities. Suddenly he was ambushed by a gang of cut-throats who mugged him and stole all his belongings including his clothes and left him bleeding and half dead by the side of the road.
It so happened that a clergyman was travelling along the same road and when he arrived at that spot, he spied the wounded man in the ditch but he quickly glanced away and crossed over to the other side of the road and hurried on his way as he had an important appointment and didn't want to become involved or be delayed.
A short time later a clerk of the court happened along and when he saw that something was amiss, he came closer to have a good look. But when he saw the ugly sight, he pulled his coat around him, turned away in disgust and continued on his journey.
Time passed and eventually a young foreign business man came down the road. '"hen he looked at the poor victim of the crime and saw what had happened his heart was filled with pity. He dismounted from his horse and Dulled a small first-aid kit from his pack and proceeded to dress the man's wounds. He then managed to get him mounted on the horse and took him to the closest inn where he put him to bed and looked after him and stayed with him overnight In the morning he raid the bill for both of them and asked the inn-keeper r to keep an eye on the sick, man for a few days and if there was any additional expense, he promised to make it up on his
next visit.
Moral of the story: compassion in action is the mark of a good neighbor.
